Steele Indian School Park has a lot to offer visitors, including an outdoor amphitheater that can seat 1500 people, a large lake, two half-court basketball courts, a sand volleyball court, playgrounds, ramadas for shade, and hiking trails. The park also hosts events and concerts throughout the year.

Steele Indian School Park operates in Phoenix Arizona. The company is primarily involved in Parks. Read on for some ideas.

The Circle of Life

The center of the 72-acre Steele Indian School Park is a circular walkway with three historic buildings and 24 interpretive columns. This wide, circular area surrounds a water cistern called the Circle of Life, which is meant to symbolize Native American conceptions of life and the universe.

The museum is open 364 days a year and has been the venue for many large events including the Phoenix Pride Festival, Fabulous Fourth of July, and Arizona Strong Beer Festival. It’s also served by the Central Indian School Station on the METRO Light Rail.

The introductory exhibit in the gallery features an assemblage of trophies won by Phoenix Indian School students as far back as the 1950s. Talahongva hopes to eventually transform the gallery into a historical digital journey.

The American Indian Veterans Memorial

Over a century ago, 60 Phoenix Indian School students and alumni enlisted to fight for world peace during World War I. Two of those students, Lee Rainbow and Wallace Antone, died in combat. A building at the school that honors them, Memorial Hall, was built in 1922.

Talahongva says many people pass the Memorial Hall all the time and don’t know its story. But she believes it’s important to remember these young men and their service.

The memorial was designed by a Hopi artist and military veteran, Dennis Numekena. It features the eagle, which symbolizes spirituality and journey. The design also incorporates the elements of fire, water, and earth to represent bringing the warriors home.  Visit this site!

The Pond

The park has a large lake, an outdoor amphitheater stage area that can seat 1500 people, and 24 interpretive columns that tell the story of the old Phoenix Indian School.

The community lake is 2.5 acres and offers fishing opportunities. A class U urban fishing license is required. There is also a walking and running trail around the lake. There are also ramadas for large groups two half-court basketball courts, and a sand volleyball court. The park is open 364 days a year.

The Amphitheater

Features two half-court basketball courts, a sand volleyball court, playgrounds, swings for kids, ramadas for shade, and hiking trails, this park offers something for everyone. It also has a 2.5-acre bird-shaped lake and an outdoor amphitheater with a performance/stage area that can hold 1500 people.

The Playground

The park offers plenty of places for kids and adults to relax and enjoy the outdoors. There is a playground, two half-court basketball courts, and a sand volleyball court, as well as a large bird lake and amphitheater.

The park is also home to Memorial Hall, which is one of three buildings that still remain on the site of the former Phoenix Indian School. The school was a boarding school that was designed in the late nineteenth century to socialize Native American children and assimilate them into Euro-American society.

The park also features an off-leash dog park with separate large and small dog areas. It is open 365 days a year.

The Dog Park

This dog park is a favorite off-leash area for downtown Phoenix residents. It has fenced-in areas for large and small dogs, water fountains, benches for owners, paw-shaped pathways, and double-gated entrances that are ADA-compliant.

The park is designed in the spirit of the City Beautiful movement, a design theory that holds that urban dwellers need passive public green space to help them thrive and feel a sense of community. It also honors the site’s Native American history.

The Steele Indian School Park is a great place to take the kids and the pups for some exercise and playtime in a historic setting. Next article.
